A Day with My Son

You love me, don't you? You must love me. Please keep loving me. Until the day you die. Until the day I die. Think of me until the day you die.

Above is quoted from a Korean drama film entitled "My Son" released in July 2007 - what Cha Heon Do said to Lee's Jon Suk's father.

In brief, the film, which is starred by Cha Seung Won and Ryu Deok Hwan (he is cute ya hahaha), is about Lee Kang Sik, a 39 years old man serving a life sentence for robbery and murder. For the last 15 years, he has been on his best behavior, and now his wish has finally come true. He has been granted a one-day leave to visit his family - his mother and his son. As the days draws closer and closer, he feels both excitement and nervousness. He is excited because he will be meeting his teenaged son, whom he hasn't seen since when his son was 3 years old - the time when he got imprisoned. Forced to grow up at an early age, his son has had a tough life, taking care of his troubled grandmother on his own; and he saw the eyes of his father as eyes of a stranger, a criminal.

How can Kang Sik make up for 15 years with just one day's time? The father tries very hard to melt the silence between them. Deeply inside, both of them have high hopes to have each other again. They get to know when they hang out at night; running around town like crazy. The son introduces his father to his girlfriend, and then they go to a public bathhouse where it's the first time for the son to smile with his father - he thinks his son's smile is the killer's smile hehehe...

The morning after the father and son bid a painful good-bye, when the son holds his father's hand, there is a big twist at the end. The father cries as he feels the hand he is holding is not the same as his own son. And the son - who is not his real son - reveals the secret. He tells that he is not the real Lee Jon Suk, but he is Cha Heon Do, Lee's best friend, who has been pretending to be the son as Jon Suk dies on the way of visiting his father in the prison. Just before the prison sent a letter informing the visit plan of his father. It's very sad to know that his son he wished to visit had died....
