My third day of annual leave. After having breakfast, I did babysitting to my neighbors’ children. Six children. My small house was so hectic and full of their laughter.

In the afternoon I saw DVDs of The Blue Planet – a natural history of the ocean – Program I: The Blue Planet. It tells about the mysteries of lives in the sea. Water occupies 70% of the earth. It vividly depicts the blue whales, silver sharks, hammerhead sharks, grey whales, the birds up to tiny organisms like phytoplankton.

After seeing the DVD, I took a nap and then saw the Program 2: The Deep. It shows the life of the deep sea – thousands meters under the ocean surface. The biological system on the deep sea floor. A journey to the deep with full of surprises. Weird animals with sharp teeth and transparent fish. Every light must be strong enough to go through the darkness. But in the darkness, bioluminescence becomes a perfect trap to catch preys. Tiny organisms which can survive are of total independence of sunlight; they use bacteria to help them grab energy from certain chemical such as hydrogen sulfide and methane to keep them alive in the eternal darkness of the very deep sea.
